Your home may be your castle, but for kids, their room rules. From toddler onward, it’s a pretty fair assumption that your children are going to have some pretty specific ideas about how they’d like to have their room decorated. And those ideas are bound to change with time. While it’s great to encourage creativity and let their imaginations roam, frequent changes of décor can cost a bundle over time. Selecting a few basic furniture options that can follow your children from preschooler to teenager gives you the flexibility in your budget to add a few extra items that can make the space their own.
Kids’ Beds
Of course, one of the primary pieces of furniture in your child’s bedroom is the bed, and today’s options offer flexible designs that can take your child from infancy into adulthood. Offering a unique level of versatility, these “4-in-1” cribs can convert from crib to toddler bed to daybed to full-size bed with just a few simple steps.
From the clean lines of the Charleston 4-in-1 Coffee Convertible Crib and the Emi 4-in-1 Crib offered in ebony, honey oak and cherry finishes, to the regal bearing of the Princess 4-in-1 Dark Cherry Crib, you’ll find a crib that offers the perfect complement to your nursery décor.
Heirloom-quality bassinets are ideal for younger infants who crave a comfy, snug sleeping space. Both the Cherry Elegance Round Bassinet with Eyelet Bedding and the Portable 2-in-1 Bassinet/Toy Box will be treasured for generations.
If your child is past the crib stage, consider a bed that offers storage, as well as a comfy place to stretch out. Both the Country Pine Twin-size Mate’s Bed and the Pure White Contemporary Mate’s Bed feature comfortable sleeping platforms above functional, spacious drawers.
Bunk beds have always been a favorite among kids, and the options offered by the Sunset company run the gamut, from the traditional twin-over-twin design of the Sunset Black or White Twin/Twin Bunk Bed to the more spacious Sunrise White Twin/Double Bunk Bed and the versatile Sunset Black Twin/Futon Bunk Bed that offers sleeping and seating areas.
Kids’ Storage
With the bed chosen, it’s time to think about storage. Changing tables have come a long way from the drab-looking units of the past decades. Today’s changers are sleek, solid units offered in clean colors and warm wood tones.
The rich finishes of the Bella Changer Chest and the Piedmont Dark Chocolate Baby Changing Table make these pieces look as at-home in a living room as they do in a nursery. Drawer and shelf storage lets these changers serve your child well beyond the diaper stage. The Emi Ebony 4-drawer Dresser offers serious storage in spacious drawers, while the Pure White Country Door Chest takes advantage of vertical space with closet storage as well as drawers and open shelves. Or enter the world of fairytales with the fluid lines and vibrant blue finish of the Hansel Kids’ Two-drawer Cabinet and Hansel Kids’ Corner Stand.
Kids’ Entertainment
Recognizing that many kids’ rooms contain televisions and videogame systems, the Kids’ Entertainment Tower offers ample storage for both while minimizing the floor space it requires. Or choose the Kids’ Entertainment Center with its low profile and four-shelf under-TV storage option. The Kid’s Three-tier and Four-tier Shelf systems offer easily accessible shelves that make it simple for kids to pick up after themselves, and keep toys and books within arm’s reach.
Kids’ Seating
With sleeping and storage options taken care of, you can turn your attention to seating options that will make the room a comfy, friendly gathering spot for your child and his or her friends. For sheer, slouching comfort in front of the television, as well as a warm, inviting place to snuggle with a good book, the beanbag can’t be beat.
Offered in a wide selection of colors and covers, you’re sure to find a chair that suits your child’s tastes. Choose from soft treatments, like the Sueded Corduroy Kid’s Strawberry Beanbag Chair or Pear Sueded Corduroy Teen Beanbag, or the easy-to-clean surface of the Deluxe Vinyl Teen Red Beanbag Chair. Or get wild with theme covers, like the ‘Smiling Skull’ 84-inch Beanbag, the Guitar-print 84-inch Round Bean Bag or the Faux Fur Animal Print 84-inch Bean Bag. Both the ‘Mod Dots’ 84-inch Round Plush Beanbag and the ‘Peace Sign’ 84-inch Beanbag are ideal complements to the popular ‘60s themes of today’s kids’ rooms.
If beanbags just aren’t your style and you’re looking for a little more support, both the Microfiber Grey Chair with Wheels and the Folding Chair with Pillow offer support, as well as portability that allows some flexibility in your room design.
Letting your kids have a say in the design of their room will make it a place they’ll want to be, whether it’s for sleeping, reading or just plain relaxing. And today’s flexible options can help keep your wallet happy, too.

My mother simply loves the pear shaped sac which I recently got and which acts as a chair in my room. I don’t like the conventional chairs – they seem too bulky, too inflexible, and most importantly, too hard on my back. On a friends suggestion I got a bag for my room which acts as a couch, and my mother agrees with me that it was a smart move.
The sac in my room which I was referring to is known as a beanbag. Beanbags have been picking up on popularity across the world due to their relaxed styling, their ability to provide comfort and their various uses. For those of us who remain clueless about the magic which the beanbag can unleash here’s a crash course.
A beanbag or a Physics bag, and the Oversized Couch is a sealed bag made of leather or vinyl which is filled with small Poly Vinyl Chloride pellets and can be used for a myriad number of applications. What makes the beanbag unique among all ‘pseudo couches’ is that the beanbag is completely ergonomic. When you sit down, the chair is supposed to provide support to your back. A beanbag shapes itself according to the way your back curves while sitting, which provides for not only comfortable seating but also is better for your joints and back.
Beanbags get along with customers of all ages due to the flexibility of their usage. Among the ‘generation next’, bean bags are immensely popular due to their stylish looks, comfortable feel and easily movable arrangement. The manufacturers recognize this advantage in styling, and thus are making more and more products according to customer preferences. The contemporary design of bean bags gives them bold colors. If you are the one to prefer traditional accents, the leather variants look very elegant.
My mother likes this seating arrangement because she knows it’s good for my body. After she heard the benefits of ergonomic furniture she agreed to let me have the bag in my room. The bag increased its worthiness in her eyes when she realized it was washable. My mother was always complaining about how the chairs get messed up in my room because of spilt food or drinks. Now, that wasn’t a worry anymore. She was also amazed at how the beanbag could easily be refilled to retain its comfort. Bean bags are not an investment for a week or a month, they are long term investments. She was also extremely pleased with the large assortment of products from which I could choose from. The choice offered by manufacturers not only involved style, but more importantly also involved colors. The bright colors in which the bags come, can match any room wallpaper. Lastly my mother was a bit concerned about the price, but the bag I bought was around $200 – well within my budget
Mom is now considering beanbags or the living room. The affordability, the style and the health factors have created a deep impression on her. Well you know, as they say, ‘mothers know best’.

Moving into your first apartment can be fun and it can be daunting. I know when I first moved away from home to go to college; I did not have enough money to buy a lot of furniture that would probably end up getting trashed if I was going to have parties.
The furniture I was looking for:
Needed to be durable to stand up to the knocks of a single student, Must be inexpensive because I didn’t have money to spare on such luxuries, Had to be way cool, hey I was going to be the man. Old-fashioned furniture would never do. It needed to be comfortable. Let’s face it, in between partying I needed to relax.
I had a beanbag in my room at home growing up. I knew how comfy they were but this was different, I was furnishing my whole apartment in large colorful beanbags.
Beanbag furniture is very popular around campuses, the ideal furniture for a student and I’m glad I bought mine. More than once I praised myself on my foresight.
Cleanup after a weekend was a breeze. Unzipping the washable covers and a quick trip to the Laundromat was all it took to get them looking like new and ready for the next onslaught.
Are you setting up home for the first time? If you are, bean bag furniture is definitely the right furniture to get. After I graduated, I still had my beanbags and toted them half way across the country to my first ‘real’ job.
I was glad I had them; I changed apartments seven times in the first two years and moving beanbag furniture is a whole lot easier than dragging large recliners up and down several flights of stairs – and they don’t scratch the paintwork.
I gave up my beans bags to a friend many years later when I married and she still uses them in the kids’ rooms. I missed those bags for a long time.
When it came time to refurnish our den we were looking for furniture to put in there. The funny thing was that the criteria we listed was the almost the same list I made when going off to college. Well, they say what goes around comes around and here we were shopping for bean bag furniture.
The beanbags are a lot better now than they were when I first bought mine. They seem to be a lot more comfortable. If you thought bean bags were comfortable when you were young, think twice as nice. Now they are sooo comfy.
Beanbag furniture just lets you sink into it but it is still structured. Beanbag chairs are formed like an armchair without legs so you can sit upright because of the support provided in the shape or you can just slouch back.
I never sit in the recliners anymore; beanbag furniture is much more comfortable.
If you are looking for informal, durable furniture for that first apartment, for the den or for the kid’s room, you may want to consider beanbag furniture. There are so many different pieces in a multitude of colors and materials, you will be spoiled for choice.
A home is not a home until it has at least one piece of bean bag furniture in it.

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009I want to redecorate my bedroom. Just like re-paint it, get new pillows, new comforter and bedsheets, a big beanbag chair and stuff. A problem is that we had my curtains custom made to match my bedroom, and I don’t want to just not use them, but I’m getting really tired of them!! Any ideas??

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009Why does being 14 have to be so hard?
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009All of the adults think that it is always easy for us to do exactly what they say every time they want something. To have to balance out school work, chores and a church that I don’t even like takes time away from me to acually do what I want to do. Being a teenager doesn’t last forever and I am afraid that if I keep on going on like this, my whole life will be gone before I know it.
I just turned 14 years old last August and since then people have treated me like I’m their maid or something or their beanbag chair. I don’t have control over any of this!
For those of you who say that this is a stage of life and I need to get over it you’re all wrong. Because by the time I turn 20 I am going to be married!
